Beneath the Surface

Where Words Take Root, and Emotions Blossom into Eternity

Welcome to Poetry - A Sanctuary of Words, A Symphony of Thought

In a world that moves too fast, where noise often drowns out meaning, this space exists as a quiet retreat, a gentle pause. You’ve found a place where words are allowed to linger, where thoughts can breathe, and where emotions are not hurried along, but honoured.

This isn’t just a website. It’s something more personal, a journey I’ve chosen to share with you. These poems are not written for the sake of rhyme or rhythm alone. They are born from lived moments, quiet reflections, deep observations. Each one is a conversation, between myself and the world, and now, between myself and you.

My words often begin in the wild, in the green folds of the Western Ghats, beneath a monsoon sky, or in the hush of an untouched forest. Nature is my first muse. Through poetry, I try to capture not only its breathtaking beauty, but also its delicate balance, its silences, and its warnings. These are love letters to the planet, and quiet calls to care for it, while we still can.

But poetry doesn’t stop at nature’s edge. It spills into other spaces, into philosophy, history, memory, and emotion. Some poems ask questions. Some sit with pain. Others stir something bold and new. They may touch on love, loss, resistance, or wonder, but always, they are written with intention. Every line is crafted to make you pause, not just scroll past.

I believe words can do more than comfort. They can challenge. They can change minds, and open hearts. They can teach us how to feel again in a world that often forgets to. Through this collection, I hope to gently unsettle, to awaken curiosity, to plant new thoughts. And perhaps, to remind us of truths we’ve grown too busy to remember.

This is not a platform for poetry as performance. This is poetry as presence. As protest. As praise. It is a way of seeing the world, clearly, tenderly, and sometimes fiercely. Because literature, when written with honesty, still has the power to move us, to gather us, and to point us towards something better.

So if you’re someone who seeks depth, if you feel at home among questions, or find meaning in quiet things, then you are welcome here. Whether you come with wonder, heartbreak, hope, or doubt, this space is yours too. Read slowly. Reflect freely. Let the words sit with you, as long as they need to.

And if, in the quiet of these lines, something in you feels seen, or softened, or stirred, then we’ve already met. Not just as writer and reader, but as fellow travellers, trying to make sense of a complex world.

This is a sanctuary. Let the poems speak, not just to your mind, but to your spirit.

ABOUT ME

Thoughts. Experiences. Inspiration. Engineering a Sustainable Future

Hello, I’m Naval Kishore, though many know me as U.S. Naval Gowda, a 20‑year‑old at the crossroads of academia, art and activism. Here’s a little of my story, spoken plainly, but coloured by all the passions that shape my life.

I carry the Western Ghats in my bones. Growing up among its emerald forests, roaring waterfalls and kaleidoscope of life taught me more than any classroom ever could. That deep bond with nature is the heartbeat of my work and my verse. As an ecopoet, I weave those experiences into poems that celebrate the Ghats’ beauty while ringing an urgent bell for their protection. Yet I don’t stop at landscape: you’ll also find in my writing threads of philosophy, history and raw human emotion, each line meant to stir thought and inspire action.

By day (and often well into the night), I’m a double major in Geography and Geoinformatics at Bangalore University, with an online degree as well. It sounds like a mouthful, I know, but it’s my version of a tapestry: each subject a different thread that, when woven together, helps me understand and defend our fragile world.

Outside lectures and labs, you’ll find me in the field, hands dirty, heart full, working with local groups on sustainable projects. I believe that research only fulfils its promise when it reaches people’s lives, so I strive to build bridges between science and society through conversations, workshops and community initiatives.

Dance is another part of my soul. From the age of five, I’ve poured myself into contemporary movement, learning resilience, discipline and the eloquence of the body. My dedication has been recognised nationally, proud highlights include the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Award and a Gold Medal at India’s Dance Championship (2022). When words fail, dance speaks.

In quieter moments, I’m drawn to stories of the uncanny, true crime, psychological thrillers, tales of the paranormal. They sharpen my mind, fuel my creativity, and remind me that mystery and wonder still exist in our everyday world.

Every step I take, whether in a poem, a research paper, a dance routine or a community meeting, is driven by one belief: that each of us has the power to shape a more compassionate, curious and connected future. I invite you to join me on this journey. Explore, question, reflect, and together, let’s find new ways to celebrate and protect the world we share.
